A global technology company asked us to recruit a Principal Corporate Counsel for its DACH business.
The role sat within an international legal team and supported the Sales organisation, requiring an experienced commercial lawyer who could act as a trusted business partner to senior stakeholders while handling complex technology transactions.
The successful candidate needed significant experience negotiating enterprise and public-sector contracts, including product sales, software licensing, services, cloud and SaaS agreements.
The role also covered data protection and security, regulatory and compliance matters, cross-functional projects and legal training for the business.
The client was looking for someone with experience in a multinational environment or leading law firm, excellent German and English, strong commercial judgement and the ability to work pragmatically with sales and other business teams.
A proactive, collaborative approach was important, as was the confidence to take ownership of complex negotiations and projects in a fast-moving technology environment.
Finding this combination of German-qualified legal expertise, deep technology experience and sophisticated commercial contracting capability can be particularly challenging in the German market.
The hire
We identified and placed a German-qualified lawyer with substantial in-house experience within a global technology business, supported by earlier experience in a leading international law firm.
The candidate’s experience closely matched the technical requirements of the role. He had extensive experience negotiating and drafting commercial and SaaS agreements, software licensing and technology contracts, alongside experience in data protection, corporate matters and complex commercial issues across an international business.
The candidate was also accustomed to working predominantly in English while operating within a German legal and business environment, giving the client the combination of German and English fluency and international in-house experience they were seeking.
The result
We successfully filled the Principal Corporate Counsel role, providing our client with a German-qualified technology lawyer who could combine sophisticated commercial contracting expertise with a practical, business-focused approach.
This is one of a number of in-house legal placements we have completed in Germany and across the DACH market, particularly within Technology and SaaS businesses.
